INTRODUCING KPG MATCHFLOW IMAGEMAPPER SOFTWARE FOR EASY AND AUTOMATED DIGITAL CAMERA FILE COLOUR MANAGEMENT

Antony, France 9 May 2005: Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) is pleased to announce MatchFlow ImageMapper Software. A user friendly software colour technology tool, the new product automatically profiles and converts images from any digital camera in one simple operation, providing an immediate and accurate representation of any original image. Targeted at photographic studios, commercial printers, prepress houses, newspapers, publishers, and creative agencies, the KPG MatchFlow ImageMapper Software removes the need for specialist knowledge or expertise when it comes to achieving accurate digital file representation.

KPG MatchFlow ImageMapper Software combines the KPG Color Fidelity Module, a GretagMacbeth ColorChecker Rendition ChartTM and a set of standard RGB and CMYK output profiles. A unique product feature offers batch processing so all digital images from a photographic shoot can be standardised at once, which removes the need for extensive and time consuming colour correction. Operation is achieved using a simple wizard interface and one-step target detection.

KPG MatchFlow ImageMapper Software builds an ICC input profile that compensates for the camera, its lens, lighting and on-camera and software settings. The software is able to remap all pictures in the same folder by embedding the custom input profile (without changing image pixels), or by converting to an intermediate RGB working space, or to output RGB or CMYK devices. This process delivers the best possible colour fidelity to the original image.

Thierry Callot, European software solutions product manager at KPG comments: “Up until now there hasn’t been a simple combined method of consistently and reliably reproducing digital photography for print - in fact, prepress production has often struggled to achieve consistent colour quality. Now, with KPG MatchFlow ImageMapper Software, customers can automatically adjust colour digital images for specific output equipment or intermediate colour space in just seconds, removing the need for any manual intervention. By using this powerful colour management tool, any digital imaging specialist can achieve precise results in colour matching across a variety of input, display and output devices, with minimal time and effort.”

Photographers today are tending to opt for digital photography before analogue, which is impacting graphic arts organisations that have historically used a physical original - such as print or chrome film - as the traditional working reference across the prepress production workflow from the scan to the contract proof. However, KPG MatchFlow ImageMapper Software recreates a digital original that can be directly used by the repro-house for the pre-press work and be printed with optimised results on any proofing system, press or production printers. This feature enables photographers and their image recipients to establish a personalised signature look for their digital image. The system also retains camera meta-data while replacing the embedded colour profile with the ImageMapper profile. This combination prepares image records for logging into digital asset management systems.

KPG will implement a distribution channel throughout Europe to support the KPG MatchFlow ImageMapper Software. Appointed dealers will include existing dealers, as well as new organisations that specialise in digital photography. For further information, please contact the local KPG office.
