Kodak Polychrome Graphics at IPEX 2002
Hall 4 Stand 380

The innovative solution for newspaper production

Savings in cost, enhanced quality and increased productivity

Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) has achieved considerable success with the Thermal Newsetter system, together with its partners Parascan Technologies, Nela and Glunz & Jensen, in the last two years in the newspaper industry. There will be KPG specialists on the IPEX 2002 stand to discuss innovative newspaper platemaking production solutions.

So far this year, KPG has sold thermal computer-to-plate systems to newspapers in Germany, Denmark and Italy. There are now over ninety thermal output devices in the world imaging the Kodak Polychrome Graphics ThermalNews plate. Thermal imaging of newspaper plates has proved successful and the rate at which new installations are being made is rising rapidly.

The close integration of the Kodak Polychrome Graphics Newsetter system and the Parascan workflow solution provides an ideal solution to manage the complete process needed to produce a newspaper from editorial input through plate imaging and ink pre-setting. This brings many benefits to newspaper production.

The integrated system provides both control and a reduction of costs. The Kodak Polychrome Graphics ThermalNews plates provide the well-proven attributes of quality, reliability and consistency gained by the use of thermal imaging technology. The increases in productivity achieved by a well designed and closely integrated system will benefit all involved in newspaper operations. Editorial, Advertising and Production departments will all gain from using the Kodak Polychrome Graphics Newspaper system.

Parascan Q Manager
The Parascan Q Manager controls the flow or data path for each separation of each page. It never sees the data locally but instructs the other Parascan modules such as Page Pair to operate on particular separations in a particular sequence. The functions carried out by Q Manager include monitoring, scheduling, prioritising, load balancing (maintaining separation routing), page tracking, production status reporting and error logging. The integration of Q Manager to the press control system will enable automated production planning and digital ink pre-setting which will save substantially on paper waste.

News Monitor
The Kodak Polychrome Graphics News Monitor software developed by Parascan to Kodak Polychrome Graphics specifications has an interface to all software and hardware sub-systems providing on-line and immediate reports of the status of the system including fault warnings and analysis of problems. News Monitor is the ideal tool for instant and remote support around the clock for the complete system.

Kodak Polychrome Graphics Newsetter System
Announced in 1999 this innovative thermal platesetting system has recently been enhanced so that each line can produce over 200 Berliner-format plates per hour and with a total system of two integrated imaging lines total output can be 400 newspaper plates per hour at 1016dpi.

This powerful dedicated newspaper platesetting system brings all the benefits of thermal imaging technology to the most demanding of newspaper production.

CreoScitex Trendsetter News
In addition to the KPG hardware there is now an alternative offering from Creo that utilises the KPG ThermalNews Plate that may be more attractive to the small to medium newspaper printer. The Creo Trendsetter News can also be equipped with an autoloader and a stacker, and can work online with the KPG Mercury News Processor.

The Kodak Polychrome Graphics ThermalNews Printing Plate

Kodak Gen 5 film
The Kodak Gen 5 family of films is ideal for all newspaper imagesetting requirements. The films provide a very stable platform that delivers day-to-day consistent results at incredible speeds whilst using less chemicals. Using the latest Kodak processor, Kodak Gen 5 film can be processed within 20 seconds whilst using 25 per cent less chemicals than other systems.

Kodak Polychrome Graphics Winner Printing Plate
