Kodak Polychrome Graphics at IPEX 2002
Hall 4 Stand 380
Plates - new products and technologies
Kodak Polychrome Graphics (KPG) has long been a major player in both conventionally imaged and thermally imaged plates. This lead in technology continues at IPEX 2002 with the demonstration of new plates and technology concepts.
DITP Gold
First into thermal imaging of plates, KPG has maintained its lead and has obtained significant market share of the computer-to-plate (CtP) business. The original KPG DITP plate has now been enhanced and the new DITP Gold plate will be shown in Europe for the first time at IPEX 2002. This plate has a faster imaging time needing 25% less exposure and complements the improved laser technology from platesetter manufacturers. The high resolution of this plate makes it ideal for quality printing and stochastic screening, both for heatset web customers and sheetfed printers. The DITP Gold plate will be in action on the stand being imaged by a Creo Quantum platesetter and outputting the IPEX Daily News.
Electra Excel
This is a very popular KPG thermal CtP plate and is going through its paces on the KPG stand with a Screen PlateRite 8600 B1 thermal platesetting system and a Heidelberg Topsetter 74 B2 platesetter.
Electra Excel plates will also be imaged on the Screen stand using a PlateRite 8600 and a PlateRite 4300; the Creo stand; the Heidelberg stand and the KBA stand using a Creo Lotem Quantum.
Sword
One of the latest KPG plates is Sword which is a no preheat, no postbake thermal plate with long run capability. IPEX 2002 will be the first European technology demonstration of Sword after a successful introduction in the USA. It is very solvent resistant and thus has robust press performance. Using a negative type developer enhances throughput and lengthens bath life.
New Conventional positive plate
Not forgetting conventionally exposed plates, KPG will be showing a new positive plate which has exceptional solvent resistance, making it suitable for difficult printing conditions and giving good performance, unbaked, on web presses.
Thermal No-Process plates
Emphasising its lead in thermal CtP, KPG will be giving a showcase presentation of plate technology evolution. The thermal no-process plate is the next step and KPG will have examples on the IPEX 2002 stand for examination and evaluation.
