Troubleshooting - Matchprint Analog Negative/Positive Proofing Systems

Poor Image Quality

Q: Water rinse temperature too hot/cold
A: Adjust water rinse temperature to within five degrees of the preferred range. Too cold water causes poor cleanout, and too hot water creates color wash out. We recommend a water mixer in the water line to the processor if possible. Water mixers can be purchased at graphic arts supply dealers or through your local plumbing company.

Use the Matchprint Model 2570 Water Recirculator to help regulate water temperature.

Color Shift

Q: Improper development
A: Check brush pressure, developer temperature, and developer flow rate, rinse flow rate, and rinse flow temperature.

Q: Incorrect exposure
A: Use gray scale to check for correct exposure.

Q: Competitive proofing material attached to the Matchprint base
A: Remake proof with Matchprint products.

Q: Improper viewing conditions
A: View under 5000°K lighting and a neutral surround.

Q: Positive proofs not post-exposed (have a yellow cast)
A: Post-expose positive proofs before viewing.

Q: Using wrong color set
A: Check material for possible shipping error.

Poor Cleanout

Q: Dirty developer brushes
A: Clean processor and brushes.

Q: Incorrect developer flow rate
A: Ensure correct flow rate.

Q: Incorrect developer or rinse water temperature
A: Ensure correct temperature.

Q: Incorrect brush bandwidth
A: Ensure brush pressure is correct by performing a bandwidth test.

Under/over Exposure

A: Use correct amount of soft water, turn on mixer, then add the powder. The Model 2570/2571/2572 Operator's Guide provides detailed mixing instructions.

Q: Incorrect water softness
A: Use a SOFCHEKR test strip to determine water softness. The water should measure two grains or less of hardness.

Q: Minerals in the water
A: If water softness is correct, have your local water purification company remove minerals from your water.

Poor Microline Resolution

Q: Poor drawdown of vacuum system
A: Check gasket. Use a rubber gasket treatment product to rejuvenate gasket. If still not working, replace gasket.

Q: Using the wrong contact board
A: Check and change contact board.

Q: Worn or damaged contact frame
A: Replace contact frame.
